Apprenticeship
Registered apprenticeship programs throughout the United States and Canada prepare
new Construction Craft Laborers (CCL’s) to become skilled and productive
members of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA).
All new individuals entering LIUNA must do so through a registered apprenticeship
program if they do not have 4,000 hours of verifiable craft experience.
New CCL’s enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program are supervised by
experienced journey workers during their first 4,000 hours of on-the-job
training and attend a minimum of 288 hours of classroom training to
learn the skills of the trade. Classroom training includes required core
courses and a variety of electives.
When the new CCL’s have successfully completed the program they will be
trained in the skills of trade, safety awareness and accident
prevention, and the importance and responsibility of union membership.
